About Squadron Line Kids Lit Quiz,
The U.S. Champions!

When winning U.S. team from poses with Quizmaster Wayne Mills

For over 20 years, Professor Wayne Mills of the University of Auckland in New Zealand has run the Kids’ Lit Quiz. This non-profit organization celebrates young readers worldwide, sponsoring highly competitive, quiz bowl-style children’s literature contests in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Each summer, the winning team from each country is invited to participate in the World Final, often called the “Olympics of Reading.”  This summer, Durban, South Africa hosts the World Final and related events during the week of July 1, 2013.

The 2013 U.S. competition was held at Central Connecticut State University.  For the second straight year, a team from Squadron Line School, a public school in Simsbury, Connecticut, won the contest.

These students hope to travel to South Africa to compete in the World Final. To do so, Kids Lit Quiz requires the students to raise funds to cover airfare and other expenses for themselves and their chaperones. Please consider making a donation to help these amazing, award-winning students represent the U.S. at the World Final. Donations are tax deductible and can be made payable to Squadron Line General Fund and designated to the Kids’ Lit Quiz.
