Meet Your Teachers

Bill Curtin will be your child’s English teacher. He has been working with young people in school and summer camp settings since he was 14, and is in his sixth year at Kankakee High School. Before coming here, he taught History and Spanish at TF North High School in Calumet City, IL.  Mr. Curtin holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration, and recently became the second teacher at KHS to achieve National Board certification in English/Language Arts. Outside the classroom, he is an avid outdoorsman, and has hiked the 2000-mile Appalachian trail from Maine to Georgia and the 240–mile John Muir Trail in California’s High Sierra.

Mr. Disanto in his younger days. How much younger? Just try asking him...
Steve DiSanto will be the History teacher for our class. Over the years, he has studied at multiple universities, expanding his knowledge of the social sciences. He has traveled the back roads of the Western United States, discussing politics, biology, and land use with locals, and has acquired primitive living skills in order to better understand indigenous peoples and their way of life. Mr. DiSanto also studied in Guinea, West Africa, where he lived with griot (master musician) families studying traditional music and songs, customs, and local language. He draws on his wide variety of experiences in the classroom, not only to expand the curriculum, but also to inspire the next generation of life-long learners.
