Greetings Show Band members and parents,

I hope you have had a relaxing summer and are ready for some marching band awesomeness! Show Band season will soon be upon us, so I wanted to reach out to all of you about some key items to consider before our camp formally begins on August 13th. Some of you have been reaching out with questions over the summer, so I though it would be good to recap some of those questions and answers for all to see.

  • Questions regarding communications and billing
    • Two obstacles came our way this summer that have made communication especially difficult for us. 1) As planned, ASPEN has been discarded by the district in preparation for our new grading and database system. Qmlativ is the new system and unfortunately I don’t have access to it yet. This has made tracking down student information difficult. 2) KPAB has been in the process of changing over billing to Charms from Quickbooks. This has been a little more tricky than expected, and has caused a bit of a delay in processing payments. Thank you to everyone that have paid on time. These payments will be processed soon, if not already.
    • If you do not have a Charms account yet, please visit our Charms site at https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/login.asp and create one.
      • Once you are in Charms, please sign up for volunteer opportunities. We have needs for volunteers during football games and shows, as well as our MIM event.


  • Questions regarding Camp Lutherwood.
    • Camp Lutherwood is the week of 8/20-8/24. This is also the week that all sports (except football) begin, as well as the week of freshman orientation. But not to worry, we have experienced this conflict before. We will handle the freshman orientation part during the week of the 13th. All students should be able to get their schedules and textbooks during the 3rd week of camp.
    • The sleeping arrangements are a bit different than Ft. Flagler. The students will be staying in cabins that sleep 20 students each. We will handle all of the sign ups and permission slips during the first week of camp.
    • Parent Volunteers at Camp Lutherwood – We will have less bunks at Camp Lutherwood than we did at Ft. Flagler. We will need to prioritize the sleeping arrangements a little to ensure that folks who need to get up early (breakfast crew) will have a quiet space to sleep. If you have an RV and/or are willing to tent camp, that would be very helpful. We have the entire camp to ourselves, so you will not have to worry about privacy. More specific information will be provided during the week of the 13th.

**Important Show Band parent meeting**

I would like to invite you all to a parent meeting on Wednesday, August 15th. There are some great opportunities coming up for you to get involved and support your Show Band. We have some needs in all areas of volunteering, but in particular we need to discuss the marching band competition that we host every year, “Music in Motion.” The Show Band depends on its fundraisers to survive, so attending this meeting is a must! The competition will be held at Goddard stadium on October 6th. We have already had to cancel our “Battle of the Bands” event due to lack of volunteers, and this event must go on. You will also have the opportunity to meet our staff leadership as well as hear about our show.
