Photography has been my passion for as long as I can remember. When I was ten, my sister gave me my first camera and I immediately fell in love with it. It was a Soviet Smena-8M, a black and white film camera. Since it was manually operated, I was involved in every step of the photo production process from taking shots to printing them on paper.

With film cameras almost completely gone, these days I am using several digital image capturing devices to do the job. Here, I would like to share with you some of those moments, which I find the most exciting.

Bibi-Heybet mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan

I shot Bibi-Heybet from this unusual angle during my visit in 2008. Three consecutive handheld shots were taken and later merged and tone mapped into an HDR composition.

Bibi-Heybat mosque is located just outside of Baku. I remember donating money to this mosque every time we passed next to it while traveling to the south of Azerbaijan. It was meant to bless our journey. This time, I was glad to see that travelers' donations were put to good use - the mosque looks beautiful after its recent restoration.

Some Information

Locally known as "the mosque of Fatima", Bibi-Heybat (Azerbaijani: Bibiheybət məscidi) is a historical mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the mosque with the same name built in the 13th century by Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II Ibn Ahsitan II, which was completely destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936.
