It is hard to believe that it is already 2014 and that we are less than a month away from beginning our 2014 KHJA show season! 2013 was another great year for KHJA. We held 10 shows at 6 different locations. Our newest show, the Mane Event at the Kansas Pavilions was a huge success. We are excited that the management at the Kansas Pavilions has decided to host their own show for 2014.
The KHJA had a strong presence at the American Royal this year. Not only did many KHJA members compete at the Royal, but the KHJA gave gift bags to each American Royal competitor. Our organization also hosted a wine and cheese party prior to the Hunter Derby. We were excited to be able to be able to promote our organization at such a big equine event. As always, we finished the year with the KHJA Year End Awards Banquet. The silent and live auctions were a huge success. Members enjoyed good food and dancing at the Topeka Capitol Plaza Hotel. Many members went home with beautiful awards representing their hard work throughout 2013.
2014 is shaping up to be very exciting for KHJA and our members. KHJA is now a USHJA Affiliated Association which will mean more opportunities for our members. The KHJA Board has added two medal classes to our shows. We will offer a 3’ Medal to be run with the 3’ hunters on hunter day. KHJA will also offer a 3’ Jumper Medal to be run on jumper day. Additionally, KHJA has started a library for members. I am excited about this new opportunity to help further the education of our members.
I hope you all are staying warm and out of the snow. I am very hopeful that the winter will soon give way to a good deal of warm, sunny days! I look forward to seeing everyone again at the K & K Spring Show at the Expocentre!
2013 KHJA AWARDS PARTY AND SILENT AUCTION A WINNER!
This year’s awards party, meeting and auction went off seamlessly, wrapping up another great year for KHJA members and their families. With the support of 60 donors, 116 items were up for bid.
Throughout the evening, attendees continuously watched their favorite bid sheets hoping to be the winner. After the final tally; $4,035.00 was raised for educational programs. A huge thank you for all that participated!
New this year is the development of a free lending library for KHJA members. Alaine Hudlin is spearheading this project and is currently collecting/purchasing equestrian books and videos. If you have a request, please contact Alaine Hudson at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once the library takes shape, the check out procedure will be outlined here.
