Kevin is a nationally recognized Health Equity Champion who empowers individuals and teams to maximize their contributions by highlighting talent. He previously directed the Children’s Mental Health Programs at Mental Health America of Georgia, where he helped 30 schools implement mental health initiatives for children and parents. Kevin also served as a Patient Experience Advocate in Administration at Grady Health System, working closely with executive leadership and middle managers to transform the system into a patient-centered care environment. His success at Grady earned him the prestigious Shining Star of the Year Award.
Continuing his impact in Black Health Equity, Kevin served as a Coordinator in the Communicable Disease Branch of Fulton County Health and Wellness, where he advanced primary care access for hundreds of Black men, ultimately saving lives. He also led Georgia State University’s African American Male Initiative as a Coordinator, guiding a cohort of 250 Black males into university leadership roles, career education, and academic achievement. Kevin launched the first-ever Joseph H. McClure Award, honoring the first African American to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business from Georgia State University—an institution that graduates more Black students than any other university in the country. He was awarded the Tribute to Achievement Award for his work in this role.
Kevin also served as a Senior Administrator at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in the College of Medicine. Some of his proudest moments include organizing a national conference on substance use disorder for clinical faculty, practicing physicians, and mid-level providers and presenting to a national physician audience on mitigating clinical burnout.
Kevin is making history as the City of Long Beach’s first Black Health Equity Coordinator. In this role, he is working to promote Black health and reduce health disparities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. He completed his doctoral coursework in Public Health at Capella University and holds a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College. His research interests include increasing the number of Black healthcare providers, mitigating clinician burnout, fostering Black male belonging, and integrating behavioral health.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys singing, supporting Black-owned businesses, participating in water sports, and entertaining in his backyard.
