About Me

Welcome to you visitor, my name is Kevin Bouchard, I am native to the province of Quebec in Canada and I am currently an assistant Professor at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. I am an active member of the Laboratoire d'Intelligence Ambiante pour la Reconnaissance d'Activités (LIARA). Our team is focused on ambient intelligence through the development of multimodal smart homes. These smart homes aim to provide day to day assistance to semi-autonomous residents in order to enhance their quality of life and promote autonomy. The LIARA team also focus on developing smaller assistive technologies targeted at smaller restrained set of problems (e.g.: independant smart stove to assist while cooking).

In addition to research which I am passionate about, I am the kind of person which like to try new things whether they are extreme or not. For example, I have been to Cedar Point and Magic Mountain to try the biggest rollercoasters in the world, I bungee jumped in Outaouais, the highest jump in Canada, and I have driven a Lamborghini at more than 250km/h on a closed circuit. I also discovered a new passion for stock trading in 2011 and I particularly enjoy trading on market sentiment by using both technical and fundamental analysis (which is, in fact, comparable to the work I do on spatiotemporal series). I also created my own six gpu mining rig to extract LTC during the cryptocurrency gold rush. I am currently learning to fly Ultra Light Aeroplane and I earned my Student Permit Pilote. I love road trip, the great outdoor. I have been to 38 states in USA, I have seen around 50 national parks/monuments, hiked hundreds of miles and drove 35 000 km (traveling in USA). I am always seeking new experiences and amongst the list of what I want to do next there are: jumping in parachute, watching lava flow, restoring a car, climbing kilimanjaro (or any other major mountain) and scuba diving in a ship wreck.

    Won a Best Paper Award during the The 7th IEEE Annual Ubiquitous Computing, Electronics & Mobile Communication Conference which was held at Columbia University, New York, USA.

    New appointement as assistant Professor at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. 

April 12th, 2016
    Won a Postdoctoral scholarship B3 from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) 35 000$/year for two years.

December 11th, 2015
    Full paper accepted at PAKDD 2016! Acceptance rate of 17%. The datasets of the experiments are available on my website.

November 4th, 2015
    Won a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Rhodes University based on my curriculum and research potential (international contest). Declined for my new contract at UCLA.

November 1st, 2015
    New postdoctoral position at UCLA. Research manager for the Wireless Health Institute.

    A paper accepted for publication in the IEEE Intelligent systems journal (impact factor of 1.92).

September 21th, 2014
    Two book chapters accepted in Trends in Ambient Intelligent Systems: Role of Computational Intelligence published by Springer and a new journal paper will appear in the Journal of Smart Home.

July 3th, 2014
    Ph.D. thesis defended with success. The mention of excellence was attributed for the contributions to smart home research and to data mining.
