As you know, many groups of people across the nation will participate in the "Can You Hear Us Now?" initiative this Saturday. Some of you have already made plans For those of you who have not, you may wish to do so.
This campaign is designed to make a statement to the media, in its various forms, that We the People will not be ignored. All you need to do is pick a media outlet, and show up at their door this Saturday Morning, October 17, and invite them outside to talk. Make sure you are on public property. Bring your signs, banners and voices to the event.
Afterwards, turn on your TV or radio or check the web when you get home and see if they (finally) saw you!
Important: Be respectful and peaceful - but let them HEAR and See you. If you are asked to leave by the police - then leave. They have a job to do.
I think the general idea is to make some noise without being a bunch of kooks. Trust me, they'll probably portray you as a bunch of kooks anyway, so it's best not to give them any more ammunition than necessary! While the media may not be sympathetic with our cause, it's not prudent to treat them as an enemy. Better to treat them as an errant and misguided child.
You should designate one person who will intelligently speak for your entire group. That person should be prepared to field questions. Please think through in advance how you'll answer. Be mindful that the media will likely seize upon any ill-informed, stupid, inflammatory message you send their way. Don't play into their urge to misrepresent your positions. Remember, we're not doing this to make ourselves feel better. We're playing to win, and have to be smart about it.
