Andy & Nancy Ketchen

Traditional and original songs, tunes and poems

...are singers of traditional and original songs and poems. They live in Powys and perform in folk music venues of The Welsh Marches, both as a duo  and together with other performers.  They are also keen musicians in the Irish tradition playing concertina, guitar and bodhran.

Andy has recorded a CD of “Songs from the Hill”, a selection of his own compositions. Subjects range across the political, personal and humorous to the downright bizarre; in fact, wherever his butterfly mind chooses to land. His work has been featured on the Radio Shropshire folk programme.  He has been performing in the West Midlands and Shropshire since the 1970s.

Together Andy and Nancy sing mainly traditional songs gleaned from recordings, written sources and from other performers.

Singing mainly to Andy's guitar accompaniments Nancy is a fine performer of traditional songs, breathing new life into old favourites as well as Andy's compositions.  She prefers lyrical songs that tell a story, especially the sad ones that make you reach for your hanky and is never happier than when someone dies of unrequited love. She has recently recorded a CD of mainly traditional songs, "Entwined in Tales".

The duo also sing unaccompanied harmony
