Those in Choir will need to ride with the choir and make sure they have everything they need for the band performance. Tux/dress, music and horn etc.

Those in band only come to the band room dressed and ready to go. We will get off the bus, put our cases in the homeroom and head straight to the warm-up.

Make sure you have valve oil or extra reeds for the performance.

Make sure you have your horn and your own music. Don’t share music just in case one of you forgets.

Afterward will load and leave for home all band only and band/choir students will ride home at this point.

Trumpet soloist Buddy Deshler is an ambassador for the transformative powers of the arts, champion of living composers, and agent for change in the instrumental music field. His bourgeoning career has taken him around the country, as well as internationally, and has allowed him to share the stage with ensembles such as the King’s Brass, The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, Foden's Band of Sandbach, Cheshire, his own Vice City Brass and Marquee Brass, and as of 2017, the illustrious Dallas Brass. In addition, Buddy has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, York Symphony, Delaware Symphony, Washington Chamber Orchestra, Concert Artists of Baltimore, American Festival Pops Orchestra, and more. He has also been in residency at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, Le Domaine Forget in Quebec and the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. His musical endeavors have given him guidance and association with artists like Jose Sibaja, Chris Castellanos, Demondrae Thurman, Jens Lindemann, Chris Gekker, Martin Hackleman, Sam Pilafian, Mary Bowden, Andrew Hitz, Lance LaDuke, Rex Richardson, Matt Niess, Kevin Gebo, Phil Snedecor among many others. “I can't remember ever meeting someone so young who was already so accomplished: a wonderful trumpeter, an inspired musician, a man who makes big things happen in the business, and one of the nicest, most genuine people you could ever hope to meet."- Rex Richardson As a performing artist for XO Brass, Denis Wick of London, Smith Watkins cornets, and Torpedo Bags cases, Mr. Deshler tours nationally, conducting lectures and clinics everywhere from middle school through college students. His educational programs and masterclasses focus on sound pedagogical approaches to practice and the business acumen necessary for a modern career in music. His clinic, “The Entrepreneurial Student”, instills the idea that one can develop and execute the skills necessary to jump start a career in music while still being a "student" and has been presented at multiple colleges throughout the United States. As an educator, Mr. Deshler serves as the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of “The Fredericksburg Brass Institute”, a weeklong summer music festival offering a rich immersion in master classes and seminars, large and small ensembles, instrument exhibits, participant recitals, and free concerts featuring renowned guest artists. As of 2018, Mr. Deshler also serves as Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Tidewater Brass Institute in Virginia Beach, VA. Deshler is also an active member of the International Trumpet Guild by occupying the role of Youth Day Coordinator as well as being a frequent session host. Buddy presently resides in Midlothian, VA as an active freelance musician and educator. He holds a B.M. in Instrumental Performance and an Artist Diploma from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami and a M.M. Peabody Institute, Johns Hopkins University. His primary teachers have included Dennis Edelbrock, Phil Snedecor, Craig Morris, and Josef Burgstaller. December 7th Puttin on the Glitz

-Chaperones will be at the HS Band Room 20 minutes before your scheduled performance time for those who are riding with chaperones or need help with instruments.

-Chaperones will leave about 10 minutes before your scheduled performance to be at the performance location.

-If you are driving directly or a parent is taking you to your performance location. Wait for you chaperone before you start to perform. And make sure to park in an appropriate spot.

-After you are done with your performance come down to the gym to finish pep with us.

-Mr. Hetzel will be in the gym, if something comes up call my cell . I can leave to come help for short amounts of time.

-The Guymon's will provide light refreshments for the band members the night of puttin on the glitz at 10th and Main for anyone that wants to stop in.

-Parent note for rides will be due December 6th.

From Joyce Glasscock: Since customer parking is in high demand during Glitz, I have a list of areas where band members may park - safely and conveniently. Those areas are:

UNI Panther Band Day: October 6th, 2018

Schedule:

5:45am! Load and Leave for Cedar Falls! Bring your own breakfast and snacks for the way up as we will only stop to go to the bathroom.

9:00 Park in the “R” lot North of the UNI-Dome and the WRC. Arrive at the UNI Wellness and

Recreation Center (Human Performance Complex entrance: Door #16 on your parking map) to

check-in at Court 8 and receive your t-shirts. UNI students will be available to instruct you on

where to place belongings. Please change into your Band Day t-shirts immediately after checkin.

9:30 Participant Meeting with UNI Band Staff and PMB Director, Dr. Mertz

9:40 Move to the UNI Dome Field. Bring your instruments at this time, assembled and ready to

play, as well as your music.

9:50-11:30: Rehearsal with the Panther Marching Band.

11:00 ALL Chaperone/Family Members/Bus Drivers who bought tickets off of the ATHLETICS

website must exit the Dome at this time to re-enter with their tickets.

11:30 Move back to the WRC Basketball Courts to eat pizza (included in your registration!).

12:00 Gather game materials (instruments, music, concessions money, water bottles). UNI staff

will take you at this point to find your seats in the stands. Sousaphones and drumline will

leave your instruments in the storage room until halftime.

The game will begin at 1pm.

Middle of 2nd Quarter: UNI students take Sousaphones and Drumline back to the storage room

to retrieve instruments and music.

End of 2nd Quarter: Halftime Performance!

After Halftime: UNI students/staff will lead all participants back to the storage room to put

instruments back into cases. Students will then be led back to the Dome seats to enjoy the rest

of the game for the 3rd and 4th quarters.

After the Game we will go get some dinner and head home.

9pm(give or take an hour depending on the game) Arrive in Keokuk!

What to Bring?

● Empty Water Bottle (for in the stands- you may not bring a full water bottle into the

facility)

11:10am = Technology – Music technology and theory session with Mr. Joe Skertich held in Meader’s Lounge in the Gladys Crown Center

Lunch break from 12:10-1:50pm. There is a lunch break from 12:10-1:50pm. There are many options on and off campus to choose from, but the C-SC Admissions Office would like to extend an offer for a complimentary lunch in our main cafeteria (hot entrees, salad bar, soup options, sandwiches, dessert bar, etc.) for all participants. During this time, students may sign up for a campus tour, or a music scholarship audition as well.

1:50pm = Auditorium (full band coaching) with Dr. Tom Polett

There will be a short break from 2:50-3pm to change clothes (if necessary) and prepare for a performance by all participating groups. Each group will share one selection that has been polished throughout the day.

3-4 pm – Final performance by all participating groups

The band has been invited to play at the Wal-Mart grand reopening on Friday, September 15th. This will be a fun community event for the band with the fire department and many others. Cupcakes for everyone afterward.

We will wear our band T-shirts which will be passed out late this week or early next week depending on the printers. If you didn't order a shirt extras are available for purchase($10) or you may wear a purple shirt.
