Parklands KenyaMUN

About Model United Nations

Model United Nations is an internationally recognised organization which stems and borrows all its operations and procedures from the United Nations. Model United Nations operates under UNIC (United Nations Information Centre). The activities and structure of MUN are closely monitored and guided and supported by the United Nations through UNIC.

The objective of the Model United Nations is to seek, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various problems of the world. In the process, the participating students learn to adopt views and attitudes other than their own and break away from narrow national self-interest and develop international cooperation.

The research and preparation involved in the Model United Nations, the negotiations and debate, give the young people an insight into the world’s problems and enable them to understand the causes of conflict between nations.

The Model United Nations contributes in fulfilling the aims and goals set by the founders of the United Nations in the Preamble to the Charter of the United Nations -- namely to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours. The Model United Nations also offers students an excellent opportunity to expand, develop and put into practice their language skills.

The Kenya Model United Nations

KenyaMUN is but a chapter under the Model United Nations. Further stratification in KenyaMUN means it has many chapters made up of University/college campuses.  University of Nairobi Parklands Chapter is but one of these.

Our operations are monitored by KenyaMUN Secretariat. What sets us apart are the projects we undertake as a means of achieving the KenyaMUN theme for the year and upholding the core principles, ideologies, and objectives of the United Nations enshrined under the United Nations Charter.

KenyaMUN is divided into three main thematic groups:

1.    General Assembly

2.    The International Court of Justice

3.    The International Law Commission.

All these are highly active within our chapter. We have a rich history of producing the best delegates, ICJ-agents, and ILC-agents; a goal we set out each year to achieve.
Students joining Parklands KenyaMUN have the choice (as in all other KMUN Chapters) to choose which group suits them; something they can revise every single year.

Our passion, personal drive, integration, thirst for perfection and knowledge make us Parklands Model United Nations.
