Allen / Allan - Die Suid-Afrikaanse konneksie



Robert Allan returned once from South Africa to visit
his birthplace in Errigle near Ballygawley in County Tyrone in 1872; the house remained very much unchanged until the mid 1950's

naby Ballygawley in County Tyrone, te besoek in 1872; die huis het baie onveranderd gebly tot die middel van die 1950's


Robert Allan was born on 7 Feb 1854 in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Ireland,  died on 15 Oct 1921 in Durban Road, Wynberg, Cape Town, South Africa aged 67, and was buried in St. John's Cemetary, Wynberg. Robert was a contractor [ with a gardening contract in the Cape Town city gardens ], builder and public transporter.

 Like every boy of the time, he would have helped his father on the farm. There is a record that he and his brother James were witnesses at their sister Ann's wedding on the 11th July 1872. Robert paid a visit back to Errigal to erect a tombstone over his Mother and Father's grave. During his visit he gave his nieces and nephews watches. This is reported to have taken place about 1894.

Robert received his education at Rarogan National School in County Tyrone.

Dié  grafsteen is opgerig deur Robert Allen ter herinnering aan sy ouers wat by Ballynasaggart Kerk van Ierland, naby Ballygawley, begrawe op 'n terugkeer besoek wat hy gemaak het uit Suid-Afrika

Robert Allan is gebore op 7 Feb 1854 in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Ierland, op 15 Oktober 1921 gesterf het in Durbanweg, Wynberg, Kaapstad, Suid-Afrika tussen die ouderdomme 67 en is begrawe in die St John's Begrafplaas, Wynberg. Robert was 'n kontrakteur [met 'n tuin wat in die Kaap Town City tuine], boumeester en openbare vervoerder.

 Soos elke seun van die tyd, sou hy gehelp het om sy vader op die plaas. Daar is 'n rekord dat hy en sy broer, James, was getuies by hulle suster Ann se troue op die 11 Julie 1872. Robert het 'n besoek betaal terug te Errigal 'n grafsteen oor sy ma en pa se graf op te rig. Tydens sy besoek het hy sy niggies en neefs horlosies. Dit word gerapporteer plaasgevind het oor die 1894.

Robert het sy onderwys op Rarogan Nasionale Skool in County Tyrone.

Die Robert Allen in hierdie beeld is nie eintlik dieselfde Robert Allen wat na Suid-Afrika
