    API TV Pilot Shootout

    The API TV Pilot Shootout is in its last phase. Teasers of the five finalists will be shown at ID FILM Fest 10-10-10 at 2PM in conjunction with Battle of the Pitches.

    The winner will receive the opportunity to pitch the pilot idea to a FOX TV executive. The top five
    winners will receive Final Draft software.

    What:
    •        A Multi-tiered competition that will help foster, promote, and utilize Asian Pacific Islander writers,
    directors, production crew, and actors.  
    How:
    •        Writers will begin the process by submitting synopses, samples pages of script, log line, and a one
    minute video pitch for an original television show.
    •        After adjudication, the top five finishing script ideas will be matched up with directors who will be
    chosen by adjudication of reels and demonstrated ability to helm a production. The director will work
    with the writer to develop a teaser for the idea.  Seed money will be given by competition for production
    of one minute teaser of script idea.  The director will be responsible for attainment of cast and crew.
    •        The five teasers will debut October 10, 2010 at Japanese American National Museum’s ID Film
    Fest where a grand prize winner will be chosen.
    Timeline:
    o        March 28        Submission period opens for writers

    •        Synopsis (maximum 4000 words) of TV Pilot (include brief character descriptions;  plot/gag
    continuity/theme; genre; focus; style, etc)
    •        1 pg. resume and/or biography
    •        5 (five) sample pages from the script in standard industry format 12 pt Courier
    Send in pdf form to tvpilot@mapid.us
    Include in body of email
    •        Web link to Youtube video upload and log line and title of pilot
    •        Name, address, email address, phone number.
    Upload
    •        2 minute pitch to Youtube.  Upload it to the Youtube Group www.youtube.com/group/mapidpilot
    o        Set settings to private and send to Youtube user “BreakingtheBow.”  You must enable
    BreakingtheBow to view it or else the judges will not be able to view your pitch.
    Pay
    $20 US via Paypal—personal payment from same email address as used for submissions. Payment to
    tvpilot@mapid.us
    Acknowledgement of all required materials and fees will be sent to that email address.

    General Rules
    •       
     The MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout Phase 1 is open to writers of Asian Pacific Islander descent
    which includes hapa/mixed. For teams, one member must be of Asian Pacific Islander descent which
    includes hapa/mixed.
    •        Submissions must not have been optioned, sold, or produced prior to October 10, 2010.
    •        Applicant must notify competition of any change in status of project.
    •        TV pilot projects are not restricted to time length or content, but must be conceived for continuous
    narrative television programming.
    •        Submission must be the original work of the applicant(s).  
    •        Applicant(s) may submit more than one project.
    •        Each submission must be accompanied by a separate fee of $20 US dollars. Paypal to

    •        It is strongly suggested that applicant(s) register or copyright their scripts with the Writers Guild of
    America.
    •        If a submission involves two or more writers as applicants, all applicant(s) must include personal
    contact information.  
    •        All applicant(s) must agree, understand, and comply with the rules, regulations, and release.  
    Submission to the competition is an affirmation to agreeing, understanding, and complying to the rules,
    regulations, and release by all applicant(s).
    •        Judging will be impartial.  All adjudication will be conducted by well-known, established
    professionals in the entertainment industry.
    •        Applicants may submit more than one project.
    •        Each submission must be accompanied by a separate fee of $20 US dollars. Paypal to

    SUBMISSION DATES
    •        
    Submission period: March 28-July 1, 2010.  Completed submissions must be received 11:59PM
    PST on July 1, 2010.
    PHASE 2
    •        
    Top five finishers will work with selected directors on a one minute teaser for the pilot.
    PRIZES
    •       
     Grand Prize winner will receive the opportunity to pitch a TV executive at FOX.
    •        Top five finishers will have their teasers screened at the ID Film Fest October 10, 2010 and will
    receive Final Draft Software.
    •        $500 award
    •        $200 Writer's Essentials Prize
    NOTIFICATION
    •       
     Top 5 finalists will be notified via email of their status on August 9, 2010.
    SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    •        
    Scripts should not exceed 5 (five) pages.  The script should be formatted according to current
    industry standards.  Font size must be 12 point Courier.  Scripts must be in English.
    •        Submissions will be done electronically.
    •        Material must be submitted in pdf format.  For pdf conversion, you may go to Adobe.com.
    •        All identifying marks regarding authorship must not be included in the pdf file.
    •        A title page is not necessary.  If one is included in the file, it will not count toward the page count.
    •        Each submission must be submitted separately with all corresponding fees and contact information.
    •        Submission fees will be paid via paypal  You must use the same email address as the one used for
    submitting materials.  Please indicate the title of your screenplay in the comment field.
    •        Acknowledgement of submission will be sent to the email address provided once both the
    submission and corresponding fees are received and confirmed.
    RELEASE
    As a condition of entering the MAPID API TV PILOT SHOOTOUT, Applicant(s) agree to the
    following:
    •        AUTHORSHIP Applicant(s) are the authors of the project submitted.
    •        AGREEMENT Applicant(s) understand, agree, and comply with all rules, regulations, and release
    of the competition.
    •        RIGHTS Applicant has the full and exclusive right to submit project to the competition.  
    Furthermore the applicant(s) must exclusively own the Copyright to the material submitted.
    •        DEFAMATION Applicant(s) guarantee the submitted screenplay does not invade or defame the
    rights of any person, living or dead.   The applicant(s) fully indemnify MAPID, the API TV Pilot
    Shootout, FOX Diversity, the ID Film Fest, JANM, its employees, judges, sponsors, individually and
    collectively, including their heirs, personal representatives, officers, directors, successors and assigns
    against any claim made for such invasion, defamation or other violations of law. Co-presenters of the
    other programs at the ID Film Fest are NOT involved with MAPID API TV Pilot shootout however
    applicant fully indemnifies any ID Film Fest co-presenter, its employees, judges, sponsors, individually
    and collectively, including their heirs, personal representatives, officers, directors, successors and assigns
    against any claim made for such invasion, defamation or other violations of law.
    •        INDEMNIFICATION Applicants fully indemnify, defend and hold harmless MAPID, the API
    TV Pilot Shootout, FOX Diversity, the ID Film Fest, JANM, its employees, judges, sponsors,
    individually and collectively, including their heirs, personal representatives, officers, directors, successors
    and assigns from and against all claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, judgments, liabilities and
    expenses (including attorney’s fees) arising out of or in connection with any and all claims of third parties,
    whether or not groundless, based on any screenplay or other materials submitted to the MAPID API TV
    Pilot Shootout.  Co-presenters of the other programs at the ID Film Fest are NOT involved with
    MAPID API TV Pilot shootout however applicant fully indemnifies, defend and hold harmless any ID
    Film Fest co-presenter, its employees, judges, sponsors, individually and collectively, including their
    heirs, personal representatives, officers, directors, successors and assigns against any claim arising out of
    or in connection with any and all claims of third parties, whether or not groundless, based on any
    screenplay or other materials submitted to the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout.
    •         COPYRIGHT Applicants are solely responsible for taking all necessary steps to establish
    copyright and registering material to WGA to protect ownership of the submitted material.
    •        NOT PRODUCERS Applicant(s) understand and agree that MAPID, the API TV Pilot
    Shootout, FOX Diversity, the ID Film Fest, JANM, its employees, judges, sponsors, individually and
    collectively, including their heirs, personal representatives, officers, directors, successors and assigns are
    not acting as producers in presenting the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout and will hold no right or
    obligation to produce or present material in any shape or form in regards to the said material.  The lone
    exception is the presentation ONLY of the five teasers.  After the teaser presentation concludes,
    MAPID, the API TV Pilot Shootout, FOX Diversity, the ID Film Fest, JANM, its employees, judges,
    sponsors, individually and collectively, including their heirs, personal representatives, officers, directors,
    successors and assigns holds no rights or obligations to produce or present material in any shape or form
    in regards to the said material. This includes whatever future manifestations the submitted screenplay
    takes on after MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout has concluded.
    •        OWNERSHIP If a submission involves two or more writers as applicants, the applicant(s) warrant
    that there are no disputes regarding ownership of the submission.
    •        PROMOTION Applicants hereby grant the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout the nonexclusive
    right to use applicant(s) name, photograph and likeness in connection with any and all publicity and
    promotional activities regarding the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout.
    •        LOSS OF SUBMISSION Applicant(s) understand the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout accepts
    no liability whatsoever for loss or non-receipt of my screenplay or for the unauthorized use of all or part
    of my screenplay by any person.  
    •        DECISION OF JUDGES Applicant(s) agree to abide by the decisions of the MAPID API TV
    Pilot Shootout judges with regard to all matters and decisions, including those decisions involving their
    sole discretion, relating to the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout.
    •        CRITIQUES Applicant(s) understand that this is a writing competition.  There will be no critiques
    provided.  There will be no feedback provided regarding the submissions of the written work.
    •        HARASSMENT Applicant(s) agree not to contact, harass, or defame judges or judges decision
    because of any outcome.
    •        IDENTICAL IDEAS Applicant(s) acknowledge that because of the Reviewers’ [those producers,
    agents. managers, production companies, et al hearing and reviewing pitches] position in the
    entertainment industry, the Reviewers receive numerous unsolicited submissions of ideas, treatments,
    stories, suggestions and the like, and that many such submissions received by the Reviewers may be
    similar to or identical to those developed by the Reviewers or the Reviewers’ employees or otherwise
    available to the Reviewers. Applicant(s) understands that Applicant is not entitled to any compensation
    because of the use by the Reviewers of any such similar or identical material. Applicant(s) further
    understands that the Reviewers and Presenters would refuse to accept or otherwise evaluate my material
    in the absence of my acceptance of each and all of the provisions of this Agreement. Applicant(s) shall
    retain all rights to submit this or similar Material to persons other than the Reviewers. Applicant(s)
    acknowledge that no fiduciary or confidential relationship now exists between the Reviewers and
    Applicant(s), and between the Presenters and Applicant(s) and Applicant(s) further acknowledge that no
    such relationships are established between the Reviewers and Applicant(s) or between the Presenters
    and Applicant(s) by reason of this agreement.  


    By entering the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout, applicant(s) warrant that they have read all competition
    rules, regulations, and release, and agree, understand, and comply with them.  Furthermore, failure to
    adhere to the MAPID API TV Pilot Shootout rules, regulations, and release will result in disqualification.
