About the Lab

Disease Ecology in Urban Ecosystems

Our lab focuses on understanding the unintended consequences of human activities on urban and suburban wildlife and their parasites. We work in a variety of systems and with a variety of organisms, emphasizing the value of a good question in need of answers.

Our Work

Our work focuses on examining the relationship between landscape, host, and parasite as shaped by the results of anthropogenic actions. Humans shape the world, and our work is intentional in exploring how wildlife navigate urban and suburban ecosystems.

Center for One Health

The Fontbonne University Center for One Health aims to promote One Health, or the understanding that human, animal, and environmental health are simply different sides of the same issues, and to offer opportunities to learn more about One Health among both undergraduates and the community.

Girls* in Science

Girls* in Science is a free summer program for middle-schoolers that connects future scientists (and scientifically-minded kids) to a diverse group of scientists. We have programs that include Biology, Ecology, Chemistry, Physics, and more. Our goals for this program are threefold. First, representation matters, and we want to make sure that participants can see themselves as scientists. Second, we aim to provide a safe space for kids to experience failure, identify the problem, and improve their work. Failure is a challenge to endure, but it is also an important part of the process of science. Third, we intend to provide an opportunity for participants to experience science as the process that it is and not as the body of facts that it is so often taught to be, which we hope further enables them to see themselves as scientists.
