Estate Planning

What will happen to your assets, liabilities, and property when you die? Estate planning answers that question. Everyone needs to have three basic estate planning documents: Durable Power of Attorney in case you become unable to manage your finances, Simple Will and Testament to designate your heirs, and a Health Care Power of Attorney in case you become unable to make your medical care decisions. In order to avoid probate court and make the transfer of your wealth easier on your heirs you also need a Living Trust to transfer your assets directly to your heirs and avoid probate court altogether with its associated disputes and attorney fees. Estate planning is especially important when someone is remarried to another person with children from prior marriages. There are many unintended transfers of wealth that happen to affluent people because they did not have proper estate planning. There are estate tax planning advantages by setting up A, B, and C trusts to maximize the transfer of wealth deductions and keeping the wealth in the family rather than giving it to the government. Estate Planning begins with a careful examination of your assets, liabilities, and your wishes of how you want your estate transferred at death. I will use the certified financial planning process to develop your estate plan and work with an attorney to draft all the documents you will need at a minimum cost to you.
