Bienvenue!

Katie B. Angus is an Assistant Professor of French and Second Language Acquisition in the
Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her PhD is from the University of Arizona's Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) Interdisciplinary program. Her major work is in Second Language Pedagogy and Program Administration, and she minored in Linguistics. Her research interests lie in teacher development, study abroad, and computer-assisted language learning. In August 2013, she defended her dissertation, which looked at the degree to which current professional development opportunities meet the real or perceived needs of graduate students working in language departments.

At Southern Miss, Katie teaches a variety of courses in French and in the core for the Masters in the Teaching of Languages (MATL) Program. She particularly enjoyed creating courses about French comics, music, and theater. At the University of Arizona, Katie taught French in the Department of French and Italian and worked closely with the other Teaching Assistants in French as the Assistant to the Basic Language Director. She has also had the opportunity to work as an instructor and program assistant for three study abroad programs in France: Arizona in Paris, Pitt in Nantes, and Summer Study in Paris. Recently, she had the pleasure of teaching English for a month in Wuhan, China.

Katie has an extensive service record, having served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for her department and academic advisor to some of the undergraduate French majors and graduate students in the MATL Program. She is currently the faculty advisor for USM's French club, and she supervises teaching licensure students as well. In Arizona, she worked with the Graduate and Professional Student Council (GPSC) as the Representative for graduate students in interdisciplinary programs, Treasurer, and Head of the Appropriations Committee. She also represented graduate students on the Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs Advisory Council (GIDPAC). Finally, she has served as the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Social Chair of the SLAT Student Association (SLATSA).

In her limited free time, Katie likes to exercise, travel, study Spanish and Mandarin, watch French télé-réalité, explore the Deep South, and spend time with her friends and family up north.
