Wow! Kate Studio's first Art Retreat was so much fun! The creativity was energizing as we created monotone sculptures, learned how to create silver and copper jewelry with Canadian silversmith Denise Relke, and designed fused glass pieces that were kiln fired on Saturday. On Sunday, we created artwork using hand-crafted papers with local artist Phyllis Howard while sipping mimosas and spent an afternoon of experimenting, painting an inspirational canvas using different journaling techniques. I'm so inspired and can't wait for the next retreat!

If you are interested in participating in a Late Fall 2015 retreat at Kate Studio in Bellingham, please email katestudioart@gmail.com and follow kate-studio" on Facebook for new, upcoming workshops and classes.

ART RETREAT JUNE 27-28, 2015

I am thrilled to announce two of my favorite artists -- Denise Relke and Phyllis Howard will be teaching at the studio's Art Retreat next weekend. Denise is a reknowned glass blower and silversmith who will be teaching metalsmithing techniques. See her work at www.sportyjewels.com. Phyllis is one of the most creative and talented multi-media painters I've met. Check out her award-winning work at http://phyllis-howard.artistwebsites.com/ There are still 2 spots open for the women's retreat - no experience necessary. Come and relax and create sculpture, fused glass, silver jewelry, painting and more!

Saturday

Morning: We’ll begin creating a small, mono-tonal sculpture using Sculpey modeling clay and a canvas.
Mid-Morning: Get ready to create some fused glass jewelry, as we learn about different glasses & techniques.
Lunch: I’m going to whip up something for all of us
Afternoon: Professional silversmith Denise Relke will be here to show us how to work with silver and other metals, making earrings or small pendants, and teaching techniques such as texturing, patina, drilling and doming.

Sunday

Morning: We’ll start with a continental breakfast & mimosas, do a little journaling and you can create your own inspirational saying on the electronic Cricut cutter.
Mid-Morning: We’ll be getting messy and creative as multi-media artist Phyllis Howard shows us her creative collage techniques and we use wonderful textural papers to create our art.
Early Lunch: Let’s head down the street for a casual lunch at the Colophon Cafe, then we can visit the Whatcom Art Market for inspiration.
Afternoon: Get ready to splatter, stamp and let loose as you paint on a canvas using modeling paste, paints, collage etc. (you choose the size) and then stick your inspirational message on it when it’s dry.
