About Dr. Burkes

I am originally from New York, just north of Manhattan in the beautiful Hudson Valley. I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma when I was a teenager, and then to northwest Arkansas for college at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.  I got married shortly after graduation, and then moved near Dallas, Texas, where we had our four children [now 32, 30, 25 and 21].  I returned to graduate school for my MA, and finally my PhD in Applied Technology from the University of North Texas (UNT).  We moved back to northwest Arkansas in 2007.

I work full-time as the Associate Dean of Distance Learning & Faculty Development at NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC), and teach part-time.  My professional interests include new educational technologies and online instructional design.  In my downtime, I enjoy gardening, social media, reading biographies, and spending time with my grandchildren.  I also have a miniature dachshund and two cats.
