Karthik Lakshmanan's Corner of the Web

About Me

I am a Google employee working in Mountain View, California. Previously, I completed my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where I worked with Prof. Raj Rajkumar at the Real-Time and Multimedia Systems Lab.

I did my undergraduate studies at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University in Chennai. I joined the Ph.D. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Fall 2006 and graduated in Fall 2011.

My dissertation research aims to address the challenges arising from the introduction of multi-core processors in real-time and embedded applications such as automotives, avionics, and smartphones. There are many key issues facing such systems ranging from determining an efficient allocation of deadline-driven tasks to processor cores to determining practical synchronization mechanisms for real-time tasks executing on different cores .

I proposed a practical priority-driven approach to addressing the issues facing multi-core real-time systems, while providing provable performance guarantees. The goal is to develop a comprehensive operating-system level framework and associated analytical tools for enabling the use of multi-core processors in real-time and embedded applications.
