Youtube Upload Settings for iMHD6

A Few Quick'N Dirty Tricks With Apple's VideoEditApp

Youtube/Google Upload Settings

OK, this is NO iMovie trick, this is just a question from the Top10 List of FAQ in the iM support forum. Therefore, in shiny colors...

Screenshots are from iM v6/QT7... owners of older iM versions or users of QT≤6 follow the same advice,  except h264, which is supported by QT7 only, they have to choose "mpeg4"... see below....

Step one: choose share/export in iM ...

Step two: choose Quicktime (1), Expert Settings (2)...

In case, you want to publish just a part of your project, simply select the clip(s) in iMovie and check that little box lower left "Selected Clips Only" (3) ... finally, hit "share"/"export (4) ....

Step three, select in the drop-down "Quicktime" again, hit "Options" ...

Step four, but 3rd window (almost done! promised!!), here, in the inner guts of the output options of iM, you can select from a wide range of codecs... and other settings...

Compression (1)

QT7 users, choose h264

QT≤6 users, choose here mpeg4 (you do not have h264...).

Size (2)

YouTube allows socalled HQ - if your source is HiDef, set 1280x720, for SD content set  640x480, for SD-widescreen 854x480 (NTSC), 1024x576 (PAL)

Hint: apply the Filter 'sharpen' (3), and finally set your audio to AAC/mono ..

Don't forget to Deinterlace your video, you find this in the 'Size' dialog:

Another option to reduce file-size is to set the framerate under Compression to 15fps (=half of NTSC)...- as you guess, that reduces file sizes almost half.. but could add some "jumpyness" to video.-

Last, often forgotton techniqué to reduce file size: reduce audio quality (3).. I prefer aac, half bitrate, mono only... if your video's "message" is the music, for sure use higher=better settings ...

When you hit "OK", you're ask for a name and a location... keep that in mind, because...

The upload-interface of YT asks for this location,

You have to fill out the form to index your video.. done!

Hint: when upload is finsihed, YT gives you the URL of that video. Add &h=1 to that URL, and you immediately jump to the HQ-version of your video!

Hope, that helps...

Last word: PLEASE RESPECT COPY RIGHTS!

you want to get paid for your work, so do musicians, photographers, etc ...-

Have Fun With iMovie!
