How to set 'Accents' into a still?

(this How-To is on behalf of Urban Legend at AD) The Ken Burns effect is a nice and easy way to direct the focus of an audience to some specific parts in a still. But for sure, with some simple photoshopping and a disolve you can add different 'drama' to your pictures... here's how:

Step 1) Prep pics

I like to use Photoshop Elements (still using v1...), but you can accomplish the same with tools of your choice, Graficconverter, Gimp, Paint.. ehm?

Here're a few examples how to highlight:

................................color/b&w

................................de-color

Step 2) load into iM…

.. well, that's a no brainer: import your processed pics.. be sure, you import a NOT processed version too ;)

Step 3) add transitions

.. I'm using here a simple and fast disolve; though, you fade between two indentical pics (.. aside the processing), it looks like, Im would add the 'effect' only to parts of the pic! tadaa...
