NOTE: Each honors group performing in the first half of the concert on March 5 is limited to 8-10 minutes. Please be respectful of other schools and carefully time your songs.
All HC program information should entered into the 2016 KPASSP Honor Concert Google Form by Monday February 22rd.

FOOD Dinner is not provided this evening. There are numerous conbinis and restaurants nearby that students, directors and staff can eat at. All are welcome to bring their own lunch. The cafeteria will be open for students to eat their lunch.

SCHEDULE for the Week 
Ad Hoc Rehearsal Saturday Feb 27th @ St Mary's 5-7 PM
  • This is not a mandatory rehearsal, but is strongly encouraged
  • It will give students who do not have a chance to practice SATB the opportunity to hear what the pieces sound like
  • It will allow directors to target difficult selections of the works prior to the choir meeting Dr. Dilworth
  • Once the instrumental festival is finished we can probably do sectionals.
Honor Rehearsal Tuesday, March 1 @ ISSH            
9:00  Rehearsal begins 

The rehearsal will begin promptly at 9:00AM and break for lunch from 12:00 -1:00PM.  Students may bring their own lunch or eat in Hiroo.
Please make sure your singers have their music learned in advance of the rehearsal. 
ISSH is in session so Honor Choir members are asked  to limit noise etc. during breaks.

5:00  Rehearsal ends; head for home.

Thursday, March 3rd  (Choir Festival Day) St Mary's
The honor choir will perform at the festival as the last choir on the program prior to the combined festival number.
Rehearsal will be 2.5 hours; approx 15:30-19:00
No dinner is being planned; students will be on their own to get food following the rehearsal. You may want to bring a snack for between festival and rehearsal.

Friday, March 5th (Honor Concert) CAJ

Honor Choir Schedule:
2:30 to 3:30 — Early sound checks for select groups
3:00 HC arrive and get settled for a 3:30 rehearsal
3:30 to 5:25—HC Rehearsal on stage
5:30 to 6:25—Select groups do sound checks, eat dinner, dress
If you and your select group can arrive early and do sound check before 3:30, 
please let me know.
6:30 — Doors open
6:45 — Singers seated in auditorium
7:00 — Concert
9:30 — Clean-up and head for home

You are invited to stick around for a late dinner and drinks afterwards with all directors, accompanists, and chaperones.

  • Our chef will be preparing a dinner for the evening.
    • penne bolognese (meat sauce) or penne marinara (vegetarian option)
    • roasted caponata (eggplant)
    • garden salad, choice of dressing
    • chocolate cake
    • tea, coffee, water
  • Dinner will be served from 5:00 to 6:45.
  • It is available to Honor Choir members, select group members, directors, chaperones, drivers, etc.
  • The price is ¥650. Cash only, at the time of dining, individually or by school.
  • Please e-mail me with an approximate number of how many would like this option by this Friday. (So our chef knows how much food to make.)
  • E-mail me also with any special food considerations (gluten-free, vegan, etc.). Our chef, who is a vegetarian, is willing to and can likely accommodate requests.
  • There are eateries near the station, but the schedule is a bit tight and those who eat out may find themselves rushed or worse, late. (Note that the McDonald's near Higashi Kurume station has gone out of business.)

Important Notes for Directors:
  • If you will need special equipment or instruments other than a piano and one music stand, please enter that in the shared Google document Jacqueline set up. I will make arrangements.
  • When coordinating chaperones for your school, the KPASSP requirement is 1 adult per every 15 students. Students must be always be accompanied by an adult while on campus as we will not be providing adult supervision. In the event of an emergency, such as an earthquake, it will be very important for adults to be present.
  • The first half of the concert is a performance of KPASSP select ensembles from various schools. If your school has a select ensemble targeting advanced students and advanced repertoire, they are invited to perform for this portion of the concert. Repertoire selection for this ensemble consists of 2-3 pieces for a total of 8-10 minutes in total length.
  • Students should keep their belongings with them or at their assigned seats, and so should travel light. CAJ is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 
  • Busses should find their own parking. CAJ has very limited parking for cars. See the attachment for locations of paid parking lots.
