Goal 5: Conduct upland bird workshops to promote good habitat and wildlife management activities.

Objectives
  • Provide landowners with an opportunity to interact with resource professionals to learn about habitat and management programs available to them.
    • Encourage local chapters of PF, QF and QU to conduct a habitat workshop each year.
    • KDWP will conduct five workshops each year (one in each district).  KDWP sponsored workshops will target areas not currently covered by chapters.
    • All counties will have at least a workshop every third year.
    • Some workshops may need to be multi-county to provide best use of the resources available.
  • Develop a standardized program that will be conducted at locations throughout the Initiative area.
    • A standard list of topics will be developed that will be covered at each workshop including but not limited to: KDWP’s UBI, Private Land habitat programs, WIHA, Private Land Special Hunts, PF/QF/QU habitat programs, membership, fund raising, etc, USDA programs especially CRP contract conversion and CCRP opportunities, USDA WHIP, other habitat programs, USFWS Partners of Wildlife program.
    • Each workshop will have standard organizational representation—KDWP, USDA (FSA & NRCS), Conservation District, USFWS, QU, PF, QF, Ft. Riley/Ft. Leavenworth, Local Advocates.
    • All counties will have at least a workshop every third year.
    • Some workshops may need to be multi-county to provide best use of the resources available
  • Provide landowners with options for habitat management and CRP management to maximize upland bird benefits.
    • Develop/utilize written materials for landowners to have that will explain and support the programs highlighted at habitat workshops.
    • Provide examples of the economic options available for utilizing the wildlife habitat programs.
