No conservation status in Kansas, populations are declining in the Kansas River basin.
Widespread and locally common to abundant in pooled stream habitats, ponds and reservoirs of Kansas basin and Smoky Hill/Solomon, and Saline tributary basins, some loss from small tributaries and western portions of the western tributary basins.*
