Doug Alvine
I have been married to Shelly for 37 years, and have two sons, Travis and Kyle. Travis lives in Grand Forks, ND, and Kyle is in Watertown. Shelly and I are both retired. We have lived in Watertown since 1988.
I enjoy hunting, fishing, golfing, biking and spending time with our two dogs, Sam and Pepper. I like to hunt ducks and pheasants with Pepper, my German wirehair. I also enjoy volunteering at our church, Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, and other programs in Watertown. I am also a member of Ducks Unlimited and past president of SD Wildlife Society.
I retired in June of 2012, after working 35 years with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. I started out in Watertown on the habitat crew, spent 6 months in Idaho at a private trout hatchery, came back to GFP at Cleghorn hatchery in Rapid City, spent the next nine years as a Conservation Officer in Faulkton and Madison, then moved back to Watertown as the Regional Wildlife Manager, before working the last 22 years as the Regional Supervisor in northeast South Dakota.
I saw a lot of changes, both good and bad, with wildlife, water and habitat management during my 35 year career. I am very concerned with the loss of habitat, especially in eastern SD . That is one of the reasons that I wanted to get involved with the Izaak Walton. The Ikes believe in caring and managing for all aspects of wildilfe, habitat and water. I think that is very important.
