Our group is interested to unravel the precise role of bacterial T3SS effectors in modulating the immune responses of crop plants. Presently we are working on two important plant-bacterial systems, rice::Xanthomomnas oryzae pv. oryzae (bacterial leaf blight pathogen) and pomegranate: X. axonopodis pv. punicae (pomegranate blight pathogen). Screening of R-gene responses in rice for resistance to bacterial blight, diagnostics, genomic fingerprints of emerging bacterial pathogens, disease management are the applied research programmes.
