I'll be using this site to collect my notes and observations on home 3D fabrication, using my MakerBot, Kallisti.  This is a portable device that can be constructed by any reasonably-skilled craftsman, and which can fabricate arbitrary objects out of plastic (up to the limits of her internals).

This includes fabricating replacement parts for herself, or parts to build another fab, like the RepRap.

This technology is, in my opinion, a rare unambiguous Good Thing for humanity...but a lot of companies have built their business models around being the only ones capable of shaping plastic, and thus being able to ridiculously overcharge for it.  (Think toy manufacturers.)  There's a chance that this cultural shift will make P2P music sharing look benign and legally clear-cut.

Which is of course why I've named mine Kallisti.  Hail Eris!
