About

The Kallen Dance School is a long established Ballroom and Latin American dance school run by Keith Allen in the South East of England.

The weekly held social classes are for all ages and all levels of dancer, from beginners to those who compete. It's great fun and you can take part as much or as little as you like. You can come with a partner, a group or on your own. Keith and his assistants will help you along the way.

The classes consist of social dancing, intermixed with Ballroom and Latin tuition. We do two classes of each, one for beginners and one for advanced. In between Keith and his assistants will help you build on what you have learnt.

It's a great way to keep fit and to meet new people.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do I wear?
Most importantly you want to be comfortable and unincumbered. Pencil skirts and tight trousers can be problematic when you are trying to dance! But generally anything goes clothes-wise. More important is your footwear. Ballroom dancers wear suede sole shoes and we can obtain these for you or you can find them online. If it is your first time and you are not yet ready to purchase your first pair of dance shoes try to wear shoes with little or no grip (avoid rubber soles and heavy tread) and ones that stay firmly on your feet (not flip flops or loose fitting heels).

I don't have a partner! Can I still come?
You don't have to bring a partner. There are usually several single dancers at our evening classes and if not Keith and his assistants will make sure you are not sat down for long. It's a really sociable night and a great way to meet new people.

I have two left feet! Will I be able to keep up?
We tailor our tuition to who comes to the classes and that usually includes several beginners so you wont be alone. We wont leave you behind and if you are struggling with a step in the class we will take you for a one-on-one session to go through it more slowly. After a few months you will have picked up enough steps to start venturing out onto the floor.

How much does it cost?
The evening classes are normally £6 per person.

What are private lessons - would that be best for me?
Keith offers private lessons, which he charges £20 per half hour for. In them you get one-on-one concentrated tuition on anything you would like to focus on. Great if you are working towards a special event like a wedding dance or competition. Call Keith to discuss availability. He often does lessons before the classes or in the daytime at other locations around Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. Pam and Kerry Allen are also available for private lessons.

Where are you based?
We hire village halls around West Kent and East Sussex to hold our weekly classes. See our 'Find Us' page for more details.

Are the classes suitable for children?
They are but if the class is too late for you (8.30pm - 10.30pm) Keith is currently running a very popular childrens' class on Wednesdays at Maresfield Village Hall (see the 'Find Us' page), usually between 5pm and 6pm. Call Keith for more details.

Are you a licensed and qualified dance school?
Yes. Keith Allen is a highly qualified dance instructor, registered with the NATD (National Association of Teachers of Dancing). He has had the school for nearly 30 years.
