Tim Nicholls awards Kalinga's 1st Scout Medallion at Anzac Event

posted Apr 25, 2014, 4:15 PM by Kalinga Scouts & Cubs   [ updated Apr 25, 2014, 4:27 PM ]

Kalinga Group's annual Anzac Day Sleepover and March had an extra element this year with Queensland Treasurer, Tim Nicholls, awarding our first Australian Scout Medallion to A. Martinkus. The Medallion is the highest award available to Scouts. It is quite an achievement and requires the Scout to participate in a Scout leadership course, demonstrate an active leadership role in Scouting and achieve the Adventurer Cord.

Mr Nicholls also recognised Scout Leader Hawk his 50 years of service to the Scouting Movement. Hawk is a Scouting identity in Brisbane's North and member of the Kalinga family. Hawk is responsible for the annual Butterfly Scout event which attracts up to 500 scouts per year.

Our Scouts and Cubs all enjoyed the night in at the Den, before marching down to the the Kalinga Park Gates to participate in the Anzac ceremonies.

Kalinga Awarded Grant to Upgrade Den

posted Jan 28, 2014, 11:32 PM by Kalinga Scouts & Cubs   [ updated Feb 1, 2014, 6:22 PM ]

Kalinga had some great news this week, we have been successful in our application for a Grant under the Gambling and Community Benefits Fund.

The grant of $31,818 will cover the cost of upgrades to our Den's kitchen and bathrooms.

The Group Executive is very excited about this outcome, as it allows our fund raising to be more focused on Kalinga's Scouting groups, rather than building upkeep.
