Twin Peaks

2/18/2008 - Twin Peaks Attempt

Access from Reno, NV:
US 395 south
Twin lake Road west 13 miles to closure
Drive Time: ~2:10

Run:
I skinned up Horse Creek, then up to the glacier below Twin peak's North Couloir.  I crossed the bergschrund on a stable snow bridge and started climbing the North Couloir.  I reached a section of ice and retreated because I did not take crampons with me.  I measured the slope angle just below the ice to be 45 degrees.  The snow was wind-affected powder.  I found the best snow in Horse Creek on more west-facing aspects.
Elevation: ~5040
Distance: ~11 miles
Time: 6.5 h
