as an ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-Academic
Team for the 2010 season. In addition, Kari Larson
and Kelsey Hassevort were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
In order to receive the team award, teams needed to maintain a
cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above for the 2009-10 academic year.
To receive the individual award, students must have maintained a cumulative grade
point average of 3.50 or above during the 2009-10 academic year.
The women's tennis team finished third at the MIAA Tournament with a 5-3 win over Albion on Saturday, May 1 in Holland. Kalamazoo won at one and two doubles before clinching the win with victories at two, three and six singles. Beau Wangtrakuldee and Kari Larson won 9-7 at one doubles. Kelsey Hassevoort won 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at two singles. The Hornets finished the season with an overall record of 14-8. Beau Wangtrakuldee was named to the All-MIAA First Team for the fourth consecutive year.
Kalamazoo College has been selected to host the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Championships. The announcement was made official by the NCAA on Friday, June 25. Kalamazoo's Stowe Stadium will be the official site of the tournaments.
Kalamazoo has hosted the men's national championships five times, most recently in 2000. Kalamazoo has hosted the women's championships seven times, most recently in 2005. This is the first time Kalamazoo will host both tournaments simultaneously.
