Welcome and thank you for your interest in my work! I am a linguist and data scientist currently working as a User Services Senior Officer, Administrative Data Service at the UK Data Archive, University of Essex. My work in the archiving related fields ++++.
My work in linguistics involves research on the syntax and semantics of Modern Greek and English. My recent research focuses on the exploration of the syntax and semantics of the phenomenon of resumption in Modern Greek restrictive, appositive and free relative clauses and how it can be treated in an effective way in constraint-based formalisms such as LFG (Lexical Functional Grammar) (Chatsiou 2005, 2006, 2010). In my PhD thesis (Chatsiou 2010), I also present an implementation of my account as a fragment of Modern Greek Grammar using the Xerox Linguistics Environment (XLE), a natural language processing platform developed for LFG grammars which is the core natural language search technology behind the Bing search engine (see also Chatsiou 2009). I have an active interest in all kinds of computational tools and platforms used as implementations (such as the Xerox Linguistics Environment (XLE) for LFG, mentioned above, the LKB platform for HPSG or the FipS parser for Minimalism, Principles and Parameters Theory and GB) for crosslinguistic grammar implementation, and their application in modelling language as well as in teaching linguistics and language.
