Science City

IntroductionScience City Map

Once again, K7UAZ will be participating in Science City, part of the Tucson Festival of Books which will be held on March 11 & 12, 2017. This is a great opportunity to introduce Amateur Radio to the general public. We had a lot of fun last year, and are looking forward to an even better time this coming March!

Like last year, we will have a couple of tables setup and will be demoing radios, talking about radio theory and sharing our exciting hobby with visitors. We are planning to have the following demos setup:
  • HF Radio: We will be running our special event station live from the Science City part of the Festival and will be encouraging people to get on the air.
  • Software Defined Radio (SDR): Various SDR demos will be setup and running, showing the power of modern computers.
  • Satellite contacts: Patrick Stoddard, WD9EWK, will be joining us from AMSAT to perform satellite contacts throughout the weekend.
  • Fox Hunting: Transmitters will be hidden and kids and adults will be given receivers to find the "Fox."
  • Mesh network demo: We are hoping to have a local mesh node running at our booth and demo how a 2.4Ghz mesh network can be used in various situations.
We are looking for people who would be interested in volunteering at this event. Volunteers will receive a free Science City t-shirt; free water and snacks will also be available during the weekend to volunteers. The festival hours are 9:30am - 5:30pm both days. We will also need volunteers to help setup each morning as well as tear down.

If you are interested, please let us know. Also, please tell me what t-shirt size you would like so we can let the Science City organizers know for their order planning.

Special Event Station

K7UAZ will be operating a special event station on March 11 & 12, 2017 from the campus of the University of Arizona as part of the Tucson Festival of Books / Science City! Find us on the air as we celebrate reading and everything books from one of the largest book fairs in the southwest United States. We are planning to be active from 16:30-00:30Z (9:30am-5:30pm local) each day and will try to stay around 21.275 or 14.275 on your VFO. We look forward to working you!

QSL information: Please send your QSL card along with a SASE by April 30, 2017 if you would like to receive a QSL card from us. We don't yet know if we will be making up a special QSL card for the event or using our existing club cards.
