Family cabin restoration project underway

Restoration of the John Wingate Truitt Log Cabin in Jenkins (Morris County), Texas is in its sixth week of reconstruction. Two brothers, James and Pat Underwood, who each bring to us 20 years of commercial Job Superintendent experience, have been given major responsibility for reconstruction of the cabin.
Construction costs are running about $2,400 per week and we are about two/fifths from completion of this project. Stone and masonry work for restoring the two chimneys is estimated at $2,500 per chimney, which will take an additional couple of weeks. Without any weather or financial delays, it is our hope, that the cabin will be completed before Thanksgiving when cold, wet weather would hinder our progress. Once the cabin has been completed we would like to add several security features for the cabin’s protection, i.e. timed security lights, fences, signage, etc.
In the past six to seven years we have raised through annual, cousins solicitations drives approximately $10,000 which has mostly been used to pay off our loan and legal expenses for securing the cabin and property. By restoring and saving our 1840 John Wingate Truitt Log Cabin in Jenkins, we will not only provide a lasting living tribute to the legacy of John and Elizabeth, their eight children and fifty eight grandchildren but also to ourselves, our children, and grandchildren who will be able relish and enjoy it forever.
This is a very critical time in the financial needs of our project. We are currently looking at needing about $24,000 to complete our project in a timely fashion. Contributions which we can secure now will allow us to avoid interest payments on a builder’s loan and permanent long term loan. If you agree that this is a project which will serve as a lasting tribute to our family, then this is the best time to make your greatest financial effort to help us complete the John W. Truitt Log Cabin restoration this fall.
