October Menstrual Product Drive

Advocates for Children Week, October 20-26

An ongoing initiative for our organization is Advocates for Children, which aims to make a difference in the life of a child. This is by being a voice for children and working to ensure that they are protected from harmful situations, encourage healthy physical and emotional lifestyles as well as impact policy to improve children’s lives.

Millions of people across the United States are suffering the consequences of not being able to afford period products. Last October, JWCL held a menstrual product collection to raise awareness of the critical need for girls worldwide and within our own community to have access to safe and affordable menstrual hygiene products. We believe that menstrual hygiene is a matter of human rights, not a privilege.

Within a few weeks, we were able to collect over 3000 items that were donated to Mobile Hope, a nonprofit that provides support and emergency shelter to at-risk, precariously housed, or homeless youth and young adults.

JWCL x Health4Her

To make the collection even more of a success this year this year, we will be combining efforts with another non-profit, Health4Her. Health4Her is a Loudoun County non-profit led by local high schoolers with a focus for women to have access to healthcare and are also working towards bringing accessible menstrual health products to Virginian middle/high school students.

Did you know that more than 4 in 5 students in the U.S. have either missed class time or know someone who has missed class time because they did not have access to period products?

Our Goal

We are hoping to collect 5000 menstrual product items this year and donate to either Mobile Hope and/or Loudoun Hunger Relief dependent upon the number of collections received.

#PeriodPoverty Fact: School aged girls cannot participate in educational activities without access to fundamental resources.
