The 1st annual Literacy Fair at UCLA
On May 12, 2012 from 10:00AM - 2:00PM we will have a literacy fair in Wilson Plaza on UCLA's campus.
There will be free books, prizes, games, crafts, a raffle, food, and fun for the whole family. All ages are welcome, activities and information will be available for everyone from the age of 3 to 103!
The Problem: Each year, one third of America’s children arrive at their first day of school without the skills necessary to succeed at grade level. When children begin behind their peers catching up is difficult and unlikely. Children who miss out on key cognitive, social and emotional experiences are more likely to repeat grades, drop out of school, and engage in criminal activity.
What Jumpstart Readers Do: Jumpstart Readers volunteer for 1-2 hours a week in local preschools serving children from disadvantaged families to promote literacy and prepare children for kindergarten.
This is a small commitment, but will make a large difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and valuable members of our community!

Jumpstart Readers at UCLA is currently recruiting student volunteers, organizational partners and community members for our early literacy program, and for community service projects.
We are also currently looking for volunteers and partner organizations on a rolling basis for our annual Literacy Fair at UCLA each spring.
