Julia Creek in Queensland won't be getting NBN for quite some time.  The 271 candidate premises in the village aren't enough to put the NBN fibre laying machine into motion.  But the Government funded black-spot fibre backbone cable goes right through the middle of the town.  And that creates a viable option to deploy a community broadband network.   There is also a nice high water tower in the town, offering options for microwave connectivity to far-away farms and stations.   The town is now looking for volunteers to dig the trenches and build their own Internet Exchange.....  Just like they did in other remote communities many moons ago.  If you are interested to participate in some way or another, write to sysop@ool-ix.net or ring Ger Vloothuis on 07 5551 0117.  Or follow us on Twitter
