I am an economist at the Economic and Social Research Institute in Ireland and research affiliate at University College London and the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA).

Research:

My research focuses primarily on labour markets and education using both reduced form and structural methods. In particular, I am interested in the interaction between education and risk. My research has looked at whether more education leads to greater or less labour market uncertainty; how risk affects an individual's decision to go to college; and the impact of risk on the returns to college. More recent work has focused on understanding the gender gap in preferences for STEM in college; whether contingent work is a stepping stone to permanent employment; the relative impacts of early versus later life conditions in determining lifetime inequality; factors impacting economic and social inclusion; and the heterogeneous impact of minimum wage changes across regions and sectors.
