B.U. Men's Ice Hockey beat UMass Lowell 5-3

BOSTON- On Friday evening the Boston University men’s ice hockey team secured another win as they faced off against the unranked UMass Lowell River Hawks at Agganis Arena.  The Terriers, who are currently ranked No.1 in the country, are now on a seven game win streak and have improved their overall record to 21-5-1. 


B.U. got the game rolling early after taking a 3-0 lead in the first period.  The first goal of the game went to B.U. freshman David Warsofsky at 7:34, who recorded his first collegiate goal.  Under a minute later, sophomore Joe Pereira scored the second goal of the game.  Senior co-captain John McCarthy was in the right place at the right time to put one past Lowell goalie Carter Hutton at 9:25.  McCarthy also had an assist later in the game.


By the end of the second period, The River Hawks answered back to tie the game at 3-3.  UMass Lowell’s Nick Monroe and Mike Potacco had a goal each during the second, and teammate David Vallorani had a goal and an assist.


Terrier freshman Vinny Saponari helped B.U. secure the win after he scored a power play goal at 10:21.  Senior Jason Lawrence also recorded a power play goal for B.U., giving the Terriers a secure lead at 5-3.


Freshman B.U. goaltender Kieran Millan continues to demonstrate leadership far beyond his years, after helping the Terriers take home another win after making an impressive 20 saves throughout the night.


Up next for the Terriers, B.U. will take on the No. 3 ranked Boston rival Northeastern in the 57th annual Beanpot Championship game at 8 p.m. at the TD  Banknorth Garden.
