About
Hello! I'm Sebastian Otálora. I'm a computer scientist working in medical image analysis with machine learning (mostly deep learning).
Currently I'm working as a computer vision / ml engineer at Kaiko.ai, together with many brilliant engineers and scientist we are building a foundation model for cancer research and that will support doctors in their clinical practice.
Previously I did a postdoc developing predictive algorithms for MRI stroke imaging in the Support Center for Advanced Neuroimaging SCAN at the Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. I obtained my PhD. in the MedGIFT research group and before that I obtained my Master's degree at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, in the MindLab research group.
My primary research interests are:
Applications of machine learning to aid physicians in challenging medical image tasks
Foundations of Machine Learning and Information Retrieval
Algorithms and Discrete Structures
Currently working on:
Deep learning models with semi, weak and self-supervised feature learning applied to computational pathology
Multimodal learning to understand massive medical datasets
