Hello! I'm Sebastian Otálora, a machine learning engineer specializing in biomedical image analysis. I'm currently working with a team of brilliant engineers and scientists at Kaiko.ai, where we are developing a multimodal foundation model for oncology. This model aims to assist physicians in their clinical practice, enhancing both diagnosis and treatment strategies.
Previously, I worked as a postdoc at the Support Center for Advanced Neuroimaging (SCAN) at the Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland, where I developed predictive algorithms for stroke imaging (perfusion CT and MRI). I earned my PhD in the MedGIFT research group, following a Master’s degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, in the MindLab research group led by Fabio González.
My primary research interests include:
Developing machine learning applications to support physicians in medical imaging tasks.
Exploring the foundations of machine learning and information retrieval.
Studying algorithms and discrete structures.
Currently, I am focused on:
Crafting deep learning models that utilize semi-supervised, weakly supervised, and self-supervised learning for computational pathology.
Advancing multimodal learning techniques to interpret extensive medical datasets.
