Josh Merel

As of mid-2021, I am a research scientist at Meta Reality Labs as part of the CTRL team.

I was previously a staff research scientist on the neuroscience team at DeepMind, where I worked with a great group of researchers and engineers, mainly on problems related to motor control and how embodied agents can generate diverse and adaptive behavior.

I went to graduate school at Columbia University, where I studied computational neuroscience in the research group of Liam Paninski (2016). Before that, I was an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania where I majored in Biological Basis of Behavior and minored in electrical engineering (2011). I did my senior research project with Vijay Balasubramanian and this group.

I'm originally from Naperville, a suburb of Chicago.
