Documents an Individual May Need to File for Bankruptcy 

Social Security card, last year’s tax returns if requested by the Trustee, credit counseling certificate, a broker price opinion letter (valuing the real estate) if they own real estate, a loan statement from the bank or financing company if they have a loan against real estate (mortgage) or a car loan showing the loan balance and possibly 1 to 2 years of prior credit card statements if requested by the Trustee. If the individual filing for bankruptcy protection had owned a business prior to filing, the Trustee may request financial information regarding the business such as tax returns, balance sheets, income statements or inventory reports.
