Professional Development Overview

Jerome School District has focused its Professional Development for staff into five primary "evidence rich" areas of emphasis. They include: 1) The SIOP Instructional Model and Instruction that Works by Bob Marzano; 2) An Understanding of Poverty by Ruby Payne; 3) The MTI Framework for effective mathematics instruction; 4) Total Instructional Alignment on Curriculum Alignment with workshops sponsored by Idaho State University; and 5) Content and Pedagogical Trainings.  The document below titled "Correlation between SIOP to MTI," diagrams the allignment as determined by the District of instructional focused areas.  It is expected that staff will use these techniques depending on their subjects taught to improve instruction.  Content area professional development will also be made available to staff as it becomes available.  Also posted below for review are the district general professional development plan, TSP and mentor Plans and the current district technology plans.  All these plans are reviewed yearly.

PD Additions starting 2012 - 2013

Following the Needs Assessment that Jerome School District developed with assistance from Idaho State University on the technology integration proficiency of staff, it has been determined that additional professional development must be made available for staff.  With new technology and planning coming at an ever increasing rate, a variety of training modules must be developed for staff.  Please check back to this web page on a regular basis to see postings for available trainings being offered through the Jerome School District.
NOTE:  The "CSI Courses" on the left column menu is updated frequently.  Check back for available classes.

MENTOR ACADEMY TRAINING

The following dates are planned for “mentor academy” training of new mentors.  This will start to become a bigger issue over the next couple years with the leadership pay issues under the new legislation.  Mentors of NEW teachers (staff hired in the Jerome School District that are in their first year in the profession) are assigned a mentor from the trained cadre in the district.  Training classes will be held at the District Office Conference Room 1.  Interested participants should contact the Mentor Facilitators (Jill Taylor, Michelle Marquardt, Claire James) or Instructional Coach Lea Stone to sign up for the program.

Planned Dates of the 2 year training rotation:

Completion of Curriculum on the mentor training is required to become an ongoing mentor for the district. (Credit from NNU is available) NOTE: Ongoing mentors are asked to attend Academy 3 if they wish to remain active as mentors.  Dates will be posted as soon as available.

June, 2013:  Mentor Academy 1 for people wishing to become mentors and this is the first step. (Credit from NNU is available)

August, 2013:  Mentor Academy 2 is the second level of training for mentors and the minimum level to become an assigned mentor.  Personnel who complete Academy 1 and 2 may be assigned for the first time as mentors of new staff.  (Credit from NNU is available)
