Joy Hulse began twirling at the age of 4. Once the baton was in her hand, she was unstoppable. Joy began twirling with Star Strutters of Edgerton Ohio. At the age of 8 she moved to Princeton, West Virgina and joined High Voltage Twirl Team. Determined to not give up on twirling, she joined the Scarlet Strutters out of Defiance Ohio and remained with them until an ACL tear took her out of competitive twirling.
No longer able to compete, Joy decided to fulfill her dream of starting her own baton twirling team, and at the age of 25, she did just that. Joy's Jems Baton and Pom Team was formed in August of 2007. During the Jems first year they won two W.T.A. Tristate, four W.T.A. Ohio State Champions, and one W.T.A. National Championship. All that in her first year of coaching was an amazing accomplishment that she could not have been prouder of! The Jems continue to impress and succeed in all they do.
Joy is currently studying to get her Judge's license and plans to continue teaching until she can't teach anymore!
