OSCURO'S OBLIVION OVERHAUL HAS MOVED!
PLEASE ACCESS THE NEW WEBSITE AT:
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST IN
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is a constantly evolving project. Although its core role is balancing ES IV: Oblivion's gameplay, it also enriches the world of Cyrodiil by adding new content. This new content includes new types of NonPlayerCharacters, creatures, locales, items and a host of other additions that flesh out the ES IV: Oblivion experience beyond its original scope. These new elements must be downloaded and installed properly in order for Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul to work with your copy of ES IV: Oblivion.
All of this new content can increase the size of the necessary files dramatically. Up until version 1.23 I have offered all necessary content files bundled in each version's compressed zip file. However, the release of V 1.3 will come in several formats because the total file size may burden those users employing dial-up internet connections. For your convenience, V. 1.3 will have different download options. You will be able to download everything in one file or separated into smaller and more manageable segments.
These programs will let you access the compressed files in which Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is downloaded from internet servers. Inside each .zip or .rar file you will find several other .zip or .rar files that contain Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul's new content and .esp files.
New content files usually are .dds and .nif files, which are textures and meshes for new models. Those files with the extension .esp are the plug-in files that ES IV: Oblivion uses to change the game in accord with the specifications of each modification. These plug-ins are also called "Mods" and their essential files are always of the extension .esp.
Once you can open an Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul zip/rar file, you will see several other files inside. Some are text files that describe the list of changes that each mod accomplishes. Others are zip/rar files where I have included the main Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul .esp and optional .esp to customize your experience of ES IV: Oblivion. Finally, all content files are packed inside zip/rar files with the name of the Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul version in which they were first used.
You must extract all essential files to your /Oblivion/Data folder. This includes the main Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul .esp and all of the content files packed inside the version-named zip/rar files.
The default folder is C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion/Data/
If you are using WinZip, make sure to check the box "Use Folder Names" so that the content files are unpacked in their appropriate folders within your /Oblivion/Data folder. WinRar does this automatically for you. When the process is complete, you will see that your selected .esp and two new folders have appeared inside the /Oblivion/Data folder. The two new folders are named "textures" and "meshes." Each has its own directory structure, where all the content files are stored.
Now, the essential files are in place and you are almost ready play Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. The last step is to start your Oblivion launcher to enable the use of Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. In the Launcher menu, under "Play", you will see the button named "Data Files." Click on this button to bring up your current list of available mods. Scroll down until you find Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul .esp and check the box to its right to enable it. Hit "OK" and now you are ready to play!
If you have used Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul in the past, you only need to update your preferred .esp file and add the content files that are proper to the releases above the one which you use. The release of V.1.3 will not ask you to reinstall the content files of 1.23 but you will need to install all files associated with V. 1.3, for example. The same applies to all previous versions.
In V. 1.3 there is a major change in the way that I offer Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and related .esp files:
First: Now, both the Full version and the Lite version have the same name (i.e. Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esp) This is done to prevent errors in savegame data keeping when switching around .esps of different names. This also ensures that future releases will work as flawlessly as possible with prior version's savegames.
Second: Now I offer all modifications proper to the Full version as separate .esp files that can be added to your liking into the Lite version. This way you can choose between the changes that you want and those that you do not, instead of being stuck with either all of them in the Full version or with just the core changes in the Lite version.
As always, you can find detailed instructions on how to install Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul within the zip files of each version's release.
