Robert Warren Jorgenson
Robert Warren Jorgenson, of Montevideo, died on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday August 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Visitation will be Monday late afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 – 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Robert Warren Jorgenson was born on July 17, 1922 in Montevideo, MN to Engebret and Elise (Erlandson) Jorgenson. He was baptized in August 13, 1922 at St. Petri Lutheran Church and confirmed in November of 1929 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.
He attended rural school in District 21 and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1936. On September 15, 1946 he was united in marriage to Ruth Rottunda at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He served in the US Army Minnesota National Guard from October of 1942 until October of 1946.
Robert lived and worked on the family farm all of his life. In January of 1967 Robert went to work for ECSU (Educational Cooperative Services Unit) as a technician repairing school audio visual and computer equipment, for twenty years until retiring in 1987. After retirement, Robert's favorite job was crop adjusting. After retirement Robert's favorite job was crop adjusting.
Robert was a hunter, and an avid bowler. Robert retired from the local bowling league in 2010 at the age of 88. Robert was also an avid Minnesota Twins baseball and a Minnesota Vikings football fan. Robert was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and sang in the church choir. He served as Church president, council president, council member, deacon, and teacher.
He was a member of the Fiesta City Chorus which later became the West Central Connection Barbershop Chorus for fifteen years. He served as president of the chorus and also received the Barbarshopper of The year Award in 1988.
On September 4, 2008 Robert was honored and recognized by Governor Tim Pawlenty of the State of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Agriculture Society, and the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation as a Minnesota Century Farm which has been family owned and in agricultural production since 1880, for more than 100 years of contribution to the community, state, nation, and world.
He enjoyed music, sports, hunting, fishing, discussing politics and news, and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; four children: Warren (Jan Lee) Jorgenson of La Paz, BCS, Mexico, Eind (Jorgenson) Korsmeyer of Montevideo, MN, Eric (Oraline) Jorgenson of Hinckley, OH, Mary (Jorgenson) (Al) Mendez of El Paso, TX, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He is also survived by two brothers: Roger (Bernita) Jorgenson of Benson, MN, and Herbert (Jean) Jorgenson of Apple Valley, MN; a sister, Harriet (Jake) Diehm of Grand Rapids, MI, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother Elsie M (Erlandson) Jorgenson, his father Engebret J. Jorgenson, four brothers: Rev. J. Obert, Kenneth, Donald, and Harlan Jorgenson, and by a sister, Evelyn Winslow.
