Introduction


Joongheon Kim (M'06--SM'18) has been with Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he is an assistant professor (2016--Present). He received his B.S. (2004) and M.S. (2006) in Computer Science and Engineering from Korea University, Seoul, Republic of Korea; and his Ph.D. (2014) in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, California, USA, with two additional masters in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Specialization in High Performance Computing and Simulations). He was also with LG Electronics - Seocho R&D Campus as a research engineer (Seoul, Republic of Korea, 2006--2009), InterDigital as an intern (San Diego, California, USA, 2012), Intel Corporation as a systems engineer (Santa Clara in Silicon Valley, California, USA, 2013--2016). His research interests span the areas of advanced computing systems such as deep learning platforms (e.g., vision-based surveillance, learning-based vehicles, etc), privacy-preserving learning platforms, adaptive video streaming, contents caching, energy-efficient computing, and cellular/wireless architectures. He has published more than 130 papers in these areas, many of which in top conferences such as ACM MobiSys, ACM Multimedia, IEEE ICDCS, and top journals such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. He holds more than 40 patents in United States, Europe, China, Japan, and Korea. He has served on the technical program committee of many conferences, including ACM MobiHoc, IEEE ICDCS, and IEEE VTC. He is a senior member of the IEEE (since 2018); and a member of the ACM (since June 2014), IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Computer Society, and IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. He was a recipient of LG Electronics 2007 Outstanding Research Paper Award (2008), USC Annenberg Graduate Fellowship Award with his Ph.D. admission from USC (2009), Intel Corporation Next Generation and Standards (NGS) Division Recognition Award (2015), and Haedong Young Scholar Award (2018).
