Cyanogen 6 for T-Mobile G1

Required files:

  1. Download CyanogenMod6 for HTC Dream Stable here. Rename it Cyanogen6.zip
  2. Download DREAM RC29 image here. Extract DREAIMG.nbh.
  3. Download RA-Recovery here (mirror). Rename it recovery.img
  4. Download compatible radio here. Rename it G1Radio.zip
  5. Download DangerSPL here. Rename it DangerSPL.zip
  6. Download GoogleApps here (mirror). Rename it GoogleApps.zip
Put all the above files on the root of your MicroSD card and have it inserted into your G1.

Rooting the G1:

  1. Turn device off.
  2. Hold Camera button and press power to entry boot loader.
  3. Follow instructions to install DREAIMG.nbh. DO NOT TURN OFF PHONE OR PULL BATTERY.
  4. Restart phone after process is completed.
  5. Wait for phone to boot up and idle in the Home screen.
  6. Slide out keyboard and press Enter twice, and type "telnetd". You should see a contacts search being started with "telnetd" typed. This is EXPECTED.
  7. Download "Telnet" application from Android Market
  8. Run Telnet and connect to localhost (should be default connection)
  9. If successful, you will see a root prompt "#". If not, repeat steps 6 and 8.
  10. In the root prompt, type the following:
    1. mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
    2. cd sdcard
    3. flash_image recovery recovery.img
    4. cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img

Installing Radio:

  1. Turn device off.
  2. Hold Home button and press power to boot into recovery mode.
  3. Select "Flash zip from sdcard"
  4. Select "G1Radio.zip
  5. Follow prompt to reboot system.

Installing DangerSPL:

WARNING: IF YOU ATTEMPT TO FLASH DANGERSPL.ZIP BEFORE YOU FLASH G1RADIO.ZIP, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
  1. If you are not in recovery mode, follow steps 1, 2 in "Installing Radio" above.
  2. Select "Flash zip from sdcard"
  3. Select "DangerSPL.zip"
  4. Follow prompt to reboot system.

Installing CyanogenMod6 and Google Apps:

  1. If you are not in recovery mode, follow steps 1, 2 in "Installing Radio" above.
  2. Select "Flash zip from sdcard"
  3. Select "Cyanogen6.zip"
  4. Follow prompt to install
  5. Select "Flash zip from sdcard"
  6. Select "GoogleApps.zip"
  7. Follow prompt to install
  8. Reboot system.
  9. If phone is stuck in T-Mobile G1 screen or Cyanogen Mod splash screen, continue onto steps 10 through 14.
  10. Boot into recovery mode, and select "Wipe"
  11. Select "Wipe data/factory reset"
  12. Select "Wipe cache"
  13. Select "Wipe Dalvik-cache"
  14. Press back button, and repeat steps 1 to 8.
