Witch Creek Fire 2007
San Diego Wild Fire

I always associated earthquakes with the west coast as the premiere disaster, but the wild fires may have topped that.  Coming back from Julian, CA yesterday, this was the view as the black smoke clouds not only covered the horizon but were the horizon.

After realizing that I was driving INTO the fire since it was on the same road I was on, I turned around rather quickly.  These pictures were all I could grab.

The scene right to the East (above photos face the West) was in stark contrast.  Peaceful and serene twilight as opposed to pitch black clouds hovering.
